proteins
that
are
converted

in
the
normal
course
of
cellular
metabolism
,
into
one
or
more
active
enzymes
;
also
called
zymogen
.
The
conversion
usually
is
due
to
a
specific
cleavage
of
a
peptide
bond
by
another
enzyme
,
or
may
be
due
to
acid
.
