It
is
a
powerful
flux
,
and
is
used
as
a
substitute
for
borax
as
a
blowpipe
reagent
in
testing
for
the
metallic
oxides
.
Originally
obtained
by
the
alchemists
from
human
urine
,
and
called
sal
microcosmicum
.
