substance

consisting

magnesium
oxide

MgO
),
and
obtained
by
heating
magnesium
hydrate
or
carbonate
,
or
by
burning
magnesium
.
It
has
a
slightly
alkaline
reaction
,
and
is
used
in
medicine
as
a
mild
antacid
laxative
.
