2.Of or pertaining to an intermediate school; as, intermediate education.

(Theol.) the state or condition of the soul between the death and the resurrection of the body.

3.(Chem.) There may be many different intermediates between the starting material and end product in the course of a complex synthesis; as, many industrial chemicals are produced primarily to be used as intermediates in other syntheses.
