Definition of Reflex action
(Physiol.)
any
action
performed
involuntarily
in
consequence
of
an
impulse
or
impression
transmitted
along
afferent
nerves
to
a
nerve
center
,
from
which
it
is
reflected
to
an
efferent
nerve
,
and
so
calls
into
action
certain
muscles
,
organs
,
or
cells
.
