the
most
stable
and
characteristic
of
the
compounds
of
osmium
.
It
has
a
burning
taste
,
and
gives
off
a
vapor
,
which
is
a
powerful
irritant
poison
,
violently
attacking
the
eyes
,
and
emitting
a
strong
chlorinelike
odor
.
Formerly
improperly
called
osmic acid
.
