genera

suborder
Dinornithes
,
found
in
New
Zealand

They
are
allied
to
the
apteryx
and
the
ostrich
.
They
were
probably
exterminated
by
the
natives
before
New
Zealand
was
discovered
by
Europeans
.
Some
species
were
much
larger
than
the
ostrich
.
