consists
of

tube
broad
at
the
outer
end
,
and
narrowing
to
a
slender
extremity
which
enters
the
ear
,
thus
collecting
and
intensifying
sounds
so
as
to
assist
the
hearing
of
a
partially
deaf
person
.
