n.1.a class or subdivision of plants comprising palmlike gymnosperms: it includes the surviving order Cycadales and several extinct orders; possibly not a natural group; in some systems considered a class (Cycadopsida) and in others a subdivision (Cycadophytina or Cycadophyta).
